Breaking News: Galliano fired from Dior after a pulling a Charlie Sheen

By Blair — March 02, 2011

Yesterday was a sad day in couture fashion history.  After 14 years of loyal servitude and creative genius, John Galliano was fired from the house of Dior.

It all began last week when on February 25th, Dior announced that it had suspended Galliano following his arrest over a Charlie Sheen-like anti-semetic rant in a Paris bar.  When video footage of a drunken Galliano verbally attacking people in cafe La Perla was published on British tabloid The Sun‘s website, suspension measures went underway, citing the rampage as violating Dior’s zero-tolerance policy of racism or anti-semitism.  When a second video emerged yesterday at the same Parisian Cafe from back in December, catching the designer red handed screaming remarks like “I love Hitler!” and “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f—— gassed”, Christian Dior’s CEO Sidney Toledano cut him loose.  After public condemnation by Toledano and other long time Galliano supporters like actress and celebrity endorser Natalie Portman, Galliano has vehemently denied making such blasphemous remarks and as a result of the public reaction, has temporarily shut down his personal website.

It is hard to imagine Christian Dior without its trademark designer backing them, so who will step in as the new genius behind the French fashion powerhouse?  Interview Magazine speculates on their website that replacement candidates include Olivier Theyskens, Creative Director at Theory; Stefano Pilati, head designer for YSL; Alber Elbaz, Artistic Director for Lanvin; or Riccardo Tisci, Creative Director for Givenchy.

Who do you think will be the next Dior Designer???
